Vermont State House, Montpelier
At this next event of our State House series, farmers and their allies will be able to speak with both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees. HOWEVER – you do not have to speak in order to participate – simply your presence in the State House and the Committee rooms has a big impact!
For the Feb 28th event, we are asking participants to bring stories from their farms and communities that relate to: particular challenges and/or opportunities they see, and any of the core issues Rural Vermont is working on, including: Maintaining and improving the On-Farm Slaughter law; how current and proposed regulations of wetlands affect farmers; funding for water quality; proposed changes to Act 250 that would affect agricultural and forestry practices; funding for Farm-to-School and Farm to Plate programs; and supporting agricultural practices that grow soil and climate change resiliency.
In addition to the opportunity to participate in the Committee meetings, Rural Vermont will provide a briefing on our core issues, an overview of the legislative process, and help you connect with your own elected representatives.
Farmer stipends are available to offset the costs of childcare, transportation, and relief farm labor. If a farmer stipend would help, note that in your RSVP form. Please RSVP as soon as possible and not later than Tues. Feb 26th as space is limited and we will want to let your legislators know you are coming!
