Take Action on Animal ID tags!

Federal legislation was recently introduced (S. 4282) to prevent the USDA from implementing mandatory electronic identification on livestock that moves in interstate commerce. The bill is in response to a USDA rule that requires Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or electronic animal ID tags, and visual identification, on any cattle/bison moving across state lines. The rule is scheduled to take effect in ~180 days.

Mandatory electronic ID tags disproportionately harm small farms by placing significant costs, burdens, and risks on them, with little evidence to support that the change is needed for disease traceability. Contact your senators to join in supporting S. 4282. Check out the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund Action Alert and let your voice be heard. Further background on RFID here.
